Technical Consultant
Kubix is a Shopify Platinum Partner, eleven years in and a team of 45, working across a wide range of industries.
We go beyond the brief. We get under the skin of how our clients' businesses actually run, and build solutions that respect business as usual while getting them the most out of Shopify.
Much of our pipeline is replatforming, B2B and retail (POS) work, where the real value isn't the storefront. It's the technology stack around it.
That work needs people with their hands genuinely in the platform. Not strategy, not theme code - configuring, testing, launching and supporting the thing clients use every day.
The Role
Configure Shopify and Shopify POS. Store setup, markets, locations, inventory rules, staff roles and permissions, POS hardware and till configuration, receipts, payments, discounts, gift cards and customer accounts. You are the person who knows where the setting is and what it affects downstream.
Build automations and workflows. Shopify Flow, app configuration, and the practical automation that removes manual work from a client's operation. You look for those opportunities rather than waiting to be asked.
Support integrations. You work to the solution designs the Solutions Architect produces, configure the client side, test the data flowing through, and investigate when it does not behave. Over time you take on more of the design work yourself.
Test and launch. You write and run test scripts, coordinate client UAT, sit through cutover, and are available during the first days of live trading when the real problems appear.
Train and hand over. You show store managers and head office teams how to use what we have built, in language that lands, and you produce the documentation they keep afterwards.
Own the client relationship day to day. You will be on calls and in stores. You will be asked questions you do not immediately know the answer to, and how you handle that matters as much as the configuration itself.
Skills/Qualities:
Two to four years of hands-on Shopify experience, ideally agency side, with at least a couple of stores you have personally taken live.
Practical Shopify POS experience, or clear evidence you can pick it up quickly. Retail systems experience of any kind counts here.
Comfort in the admin: settings, apps, Flow, metafields, CSV and bulk data work.
Enough technical grounding to be useful around integrations. You can read a JSON payload, follow a data mapping, and understand what a webhook is doing.
The ability to write clearly. Test scripts, handover notes and client updates are a real part of the job.
A client-ready manner. Calm when something breaks, honest when you do not know, and organised enough that nothing quietly falls through.
Willingness to travel for store visits and go-lives. Occasional early starts and out of hours launch support come with retail work.
Ideally, you also have:
Liquid familiarity, or enough front end knowledge to make small theme changes safely.
Experience with Klaviyo, subscriptions apps, or third party inventory and order management tools.
Exposure to any of NetSuite, Unleashed, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, Brightpearl, Sage, Xero, Peoplevox, Pipe17 or similar platforms.
Experience supporting a multi-site retail estate.
Having worked on a migration from another platform to Shopify.
We are not asking you to be an architect or a developer, or to have designed an ERP integration from scratch. You will be working alongside someone senior whose job is partly to teach you, and we expect you to take that seriously.
Why this role?
Real ownership from the start. You will be the named person on your projects, not a pair of hands on someone else's. Clients will come to you directly, and you will be trusted to make the configuration and sequencing calls without checking every one of them first.
Deliberate investment in your development. You will work directly to a senior Solutions Architect whose remit explicitly includes bringing people up. This is not mentoring in name only. Building the capability beneath them is part of how their role is measured.
A path you can see. The obvious route from here is into senior technical or solution design work as our integrations capability grows. We would rather grow that from within than hire over the people already doing the work.
Variety instead of repetition. Retail programmes, replatforms, B2B builds and ongoing client work, across industries. You will not spend two years configuring the same store shape.
Room to shape how we work. If you find a better way to run a POS rollout or a cleaner way to document a handover, we want it written down and adopted, not kept to yourself. The processes here are still being built and you can put your fingerprints on them.
A business that is still growing. We are in our eleventh year, we have gone from three people to forty-five, and we still behave like a company that wants to grow rather than one protecting what it has.
Salary Expectations: We appreciate that showing a salary indication is helpful for you to know whether it works with your personal circumstances, and it can be extremely frustrating to keep something so important so vague. But honestly? We’re in a position to consider a wide variety of experiences and salary levels for this role, so we’d rather discuss your experience and skills than try to set a salary bracket.
If you’re the best person for the role, then we’ll offer a salary that works.
